Choice lists present field data as selections from predefined sets of options, displayed in dropdown lists or tree view popup blocks.
Overview
There are three types of choice lists:
Dropdown list: This is the most common choice list throughout JDXpert.
Click the arrow to view the list and select a choice as shown:
Bulleted list: The columns in the bulleted list display information in the dropdown lists.
For example, the Qualifications tab contains multiple bulleted lists for Education, Experience, and Licenses and Certifications blocks.
Tree View Popup: This block displays items in a hierarchical structure.
Click More in the Licenses and Certifications column, and it displays the items as shown:
To edit the choice lists for the dropdown lists
Let's see an example of how to edit the EEO Code dropdown choice list.
Edit a job description and open the job template editor.
Click the Edit icon of this block.
This displays the following screen:
Select the Settings tab, and click Edit in the Choice List section.
This displays the following screen:
Click Add.
This displays the following dialog box:
Enter the following information:
Item Value: Actual value of the item
Item Display Value: Display value of the item
Click Save and Close.
The new value is added to the list as shown:
Use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to reposition this item. You can also edit or delete existing items or sort the list using the buttons provided in the toolbar.
Click Save and Close.
Click Save and Close.
This saves the data and closes the JTE.
To link an Excel file to a choice list
Select the Excel Workbook Settings tab.
Click the following:
Save Current Choice List Values as an Excel Workbook – To create a new Excel file and link it to this choice list.
View/Download Selected Excel Workbook – To view and download the Excel file. You can edit and update the file.
Upload Excel Workbook – To upload the updated Excel file. This will refresh the choice list with the latest data.
Select the Choice List Items tab.
The choice lists linked to an Excel file are displayed in this color.
To edit the choice lists for the bulleted lists
Let's see an example of how to edit the Education bulleted list choice list.
Click the Edit icon of the Education bullet list.
This displays the following screen:
Select the Data tab, and click Bullet List Designer.
This displays the Bullet List Designer as shown:
Select the Degree dropdown column, and select the Drop Down Settings tab.
Click Define Choice List.
This displays the following screen:
Add, edit, and update items within this list as described in the previous section.
To edit the choice lists for tree view popup blocks
Let's see an example of how to edit the choice list of the tree view popup block.
Click the Edit icon of the Job Classification tree view popup block.
This displays the following screen:
Select the Settings tab, and click Edit in the Choice List section.
This displays the following screen:
Add, edit, and update items within this list as described in the previous section.
To update a choice list using a data source
Open a job from Job Management.
This displays the following screen:
Click More in the Reports To block:
This displays the choice list containing the job description names of all jobs as shown:
The choice list can be updated to display the job titles, job codes, parent job titles, child job titles, and so on.
To change the data source
Open the job template editor.
Click the Edit icon of the Reports To block.
Select the Settings tab, and scroll down the right pane to view the Data Source section.
Select the appropriate option in the Data Source dropdown list:
For example, selecting the Job Codes option in the choice list will populate the Reports To tree view popup with job codes from all job descriptions.
Click Save and Close.
Reopen this job and check the Reports To popup menu.
This displays the job codes instead of job description names in the choice list.
Multi-Level or Dynamic Choice Lists
You can create multi-level or dynamic choice lists using expressions. Dynamic choice lists populate their options based on selected criteria. Let's see an example of how to create a dynamic choice list for the EEO Job Group block, where the available options are dynamically populated based on the selected EEO Code.
To create a dynamic choice list
Edit a job description.
This displays the following screen:
Open the job template editor.
Click the Edit icon of the EEO Job Group block:
Select Dynamic Choice List in the Choice List section.
Click Edit in the Dynamic Choice List Expression section.
This displays the following dialog box:
Add the expression using tags and functions.
This expression dynamically populates the EEO Job Group field with a choice list, where the available options are determined by the selected EEO Code. Similarly, we can create multi-level choice lists.
Click Save and Close.
Click Save and Close.
This saves the settings and closes the job template editor.
