Parent jobs are base jobs that define common attributes in jobs. The data in the parent job can be inherited to its child jobs by defining the attributes.
A job can be both a parent and a child.
You cannot set the job as a “parent” or “child” if it is in active workflow.
To set a new job as a parent or child
You can set the Parent or Child Flag when adding a job. Refer to the following articles for details:

To set an existing job as a parent or child
1. Navigate to the Job Management tab.
2. Use the search and filter options to search for the desired job.
3. Select the job you wish to set as a parent or child and click the Parent/Child tab in the right pane.
This displays the Parent/Child pane.
4. Click Edit Settings.
This displays the Set Parent/Child Flags dialog box:
To set a job as a parent job
1. In the Set Parent/Child Flags dialog box, select the This is a Parent Job check box
2. Click Save and Close.
The job is set as a parent job with the following message:
To set a job as a child job
1. In the Set Parent/Child Flags dialog box, select the This is a Child Job check box:
This displays the following options:
2. Click More next to the Parent Job box.
3. Use the search and filter options to find the desired job.
4. Select the job from the list and click Save as Parent.
The parent job details are populated as shown in the following figure:
The Parent/Child Settings File box displays the default settings file. You can also set the parent/child settings file.
5. Click More next to the Parent/Child Settings File box.
This displays the Select Parent/Child Settings File dialog box.
6. Select the file and click Select and Close.
This populates the new settings file in the Parent/Child Settings File box.
7. Click Save and Close.
This displays the following message in the Parent/Child pane.
To set a job as a child as well as a parent job
1. In the Set Parent/Child Flags dialog box, select the following check boxes:
- This is a Child Job
- This is a Parent Job
2. Click Save and Close.
This sets the job as a parent job as well as a child job. The Parent/Child pane displays two tabs:
- Child Tasks tab
- Parent Tasks tab
3. Click the Child Tasks tab to view the child tasks of the job.
4. Click the Parent Tasks tab to view the parent tasks of the job.
