Hello, today I want to show off a functionality within JDXpert called parent-child. I'm in Job Management and here I see a couple of sample records including a Parent Accountant and a Child Accountant I.
So, a parent-child is a functionality that exists within JDXpert, the purpose of it is to create a relationship between different records in the system. If I actually go over here, I can see some of the settings that are set to cascade from the parents to the child.
So essentially the purpose is to have different properties come down from the parent to any associated child jobs. And here, I can see that there are three properties that are coming down. First, we have Composition Summary which is set as a hard cascade, Education which is set as a soft cascade, and Experience which is set as a Soft on create cascade.
If I click on this Edit Settings button, I can see a couple of things. First, this is where you denote a job as a child job, here is where I set that Accountant as the parent job. The accountant job has the core properties of any job associated with it. And then here I got the parent-child settings file.
If actually click into here and then into here, I can see all of the fields that are held within the template.
If I scroll down here, I can see this is where it was set this Position Summary is set to be a hard cascade, Education has a soft cascade, and Work Experience as a Soft On Create.
So just to show you what that means, if I back out of here, and then I go into this child Accountant job. First, if I go to this Overview tab, this is where I see that Position Summary
and actually, if I bring up the parent job in the split screen.
Here, I can see that the Summary is matched. That's because, this is a hard cascade, essentially it comes down to the child job and it is not editable and I can't change anything about it. Now if I go over to Qualifications, I see this Education information. This has come down as a soft cascade.
A normal soft cascade will only come down to the child job if the field is empty. So if I were to delete this, go out of here, go to the parent job, cascade,
and then go back to their child Accounting job. I will see that information came back down and it is editable in the child.
So that is what a soft cascade is and then if you will remember the Work Experience was set as a Soft on Create. So what that means is, essentially if I go out of here, I am going to create a job, I will start as a blank job
And then I'm going to make it a child job. I will go ahead and select that Parent job
the Accountant Parent as the parent, Save and Close.
I will set it as an Accountant II job, save and close now.
If I go back, here I see again Job Summary hard cascade, Education soft cascade, Work Experience as Soft on Create cascade (this is whenever you want a cascade to occur as a soft cascade and only on the creation of a new job)..
So that's about it. Again the purpose is to have that relationship between a parent and associated child jobs and to cascade information from the parent to the child jobs. Thank you.
